Weekly Homework Agenda: September 23 - September 30

This week's homework and class activities focus on Chapter 3 and the addiction simulation project. Students will review Chapters 3 (117-126) and start Chapter 4 (128-135). Test corrections will be available during lunch and 7th period on specified days. There will be class activities related to hypnosis and drugs and consciousness.   4. Hypnosis Review • Can anyone experience hypnosis? • Can hypnosis enhance recall of forgotten events? • Can hypnosis force people to act against their will? • Can hypnosis help people heal or relieve their pain? • Are stage performers actually hypnotizing people?

  5. Drugs and consciousness in class activity • Psychoactive drugs are chemical substances that alter perceptions and moods. It is necessary to investigate the biological, psychological, and social-culture influences of various types of psychoactive drugs. • 8 Groups • Directions: In your group, use the textbook and online resources to help you research specific information regarding the drug that you have been assigned. Then DISCUSS the following questions with your GROUP. • QUESTIONS: • 1. What category does your drug belong? • 2. Why do people use the drug? • 3. What neurotransmitter and action takes place on a cellular level? • 4. What are the short term biological, psychological, and social-cultural effects? • 5. What are the long term biological, psychological, and social-cultural effects? • Once you have read all the documents and answered each question, your group must move on and complete the TASKS below.
