  2. Life Coaching What is it? Its all about performing at your absolute best and it focuses on goals, commitment and results It closes the gap between ‘lives and dreams’ ( Curly Martin 2001)

  3. Life Coaching What is it? Its all about increasing a client’s awareness of the path they are on, helping them elicit choices, and perhaps a new road, then supporting them to persist in making the change from ‘caterpillar into a butterfly’ (Curly Martin 2001)

  4. Life Coaching What it is not! Its not counselling , psychotherapy or being told what to do

  5. Main types of coaching • Personal or Life Coaching – focus is on individuals in order to help them lead more fulfilled lives • Executive / Business Coaching – focus is on developing people within organisations, and across all sectors of business to improve performance

Exercise in Pairs using the TGROW Model Topic –identify the issue for planning CPD Goal –set goals (using SMART targets) Reality – what’s happening now / what have you tried so far / what’s stopping you Options – think of options and their benefits Way Forward – summarise what you have agreed to do

Career Planning / CPD Goal Setting Goal Actions required Outcomes / benefits Date to be achieved by Remembering to keep your goals SMART • Specific: this should be a detailed aim • Measurable so that you can measure your progress • Action orientated / Achievable • Realistic yet stretching • Time framed (if a large goal, break into chunks)
