  1. Reading Response using “A.C.E.” • Find the right quote. A quote is ANY sentence from the story. You should choose one that proves & supports your answer. • Use the following format: “A.C.E.”: Answer the question (In your opinion, how did the author’s language shape characters, setting, plot events, conflict, resolution, or theme?) Cite your evidence (quote from text). Use exact words & “quotation marks”. Explain how the evidence proves your Answer. Ex) Sandra Cisneros uses imagery to induce emotional reactions from the reader so that we feel sorry for Rachel. Cisneros describes Rachel’s reaction to having to wear the sweater as “my face all hot and spit coming out of my mouth because I can’t stop the little animal noises from coming out of me until there aren’t anymore tears left in my eyes” (57).The way Rachel looks in this description helps the reader understand how awful this situation is and how hard it must be for Rachel to endure.

  2. How to use your favorite quotes in your One-pager • One of my favorite quotes from the story is “Because the way you grow old is kind of like an onion or like the rings inside a tree trunk or like my little wooden dolls that fit one inside the other, each year inside the next one”because ...(Cisneros 1).
