  1. THE CLIMB FOR YOUR LIFE!

  2. Page 1 Page 1It’s 6 am ‘Time to get up’ I faintly hear mum yell. I’m still dozing ‘No, No, No!’ I scream and hide under the sheets it’s sleep in morning Saturday. ‘Yes, yes, yes.’ yells mum back in a hurried voice. She streams in the door like a boat in river rapids. The curtains fling open. Blinding my eyes with the morning sun. I get rushed up, dressed, covered with sunscreen, and into the car within 10 – 20mins of waking up. Finally I’m told what all the commotions for. ‘We’re climbing Rangatoto island’ says mum as we zoom around the corners in our car. ‘That’s not something I’d want to do in ten million years!!’ I think to myself as I reluctantly force myself out of the car and slowly wonder over to the ferry depo to wait for our tickets.

  3. Page 2 We are tiredly waiting for our ferry when….. ‘All people travelling to Rangatoto island please board through gate 2, thank-you.’ explains the lady through the speaker. What! That's wrong isn’t it? Our ferry boards through gate 5, Doesn't it? That’s what it says on our ticket. I worry furiously in my mind. Should I tell mum we’re going through the wrong one? What to do? Tell mum? Turn to page 4 Trust mum? Turn to page 10

  4. Page 3 My instincts say rough path, I just hope I’m right We travel down the long rough path. It twists and turns, but we keep on walking. It seems to be alright, I mean, we’re still alive. ‘Stop! Please. Can we rest?’ asked my sister. I had to agree, I was tired too! We have ourrest and get up to go What? There is two paths to pick. One has a sign that is too hard to read. The other looks the same as the one were on now, Rough and steep. What way. Keep down the same path. Page 14 Other path with rubbed out sign. Page 11

  5. Page 4 I decide to tell mum it’s the best thing, isn't it? ‘Yes , it definitely is’ I reassure myself as I walk up to mum knowing it’s for the best. ‘Um mum’ I stuttered nervously. ‘Yes darling?’ she replied in a hurried voice. I show her the ticket and gate number then explain to her quickly what has happened. She under stands then call back to the family. We wait for the next ferry. They won’t let us on though, they say we have the wrong ticket. ‘No, No, No, No, No! that sucks’ I yell. There was no more ferry's’ that day so we came back the next day. Was it all my fault? I think so! THE END!

  6. Page 5 This way looks more peaceful. Definitely!! I’m glad we picked it. We stroll down the path peacefully. In the distance we see what looks like a dead end. ‘STOP’ someone yells. ‘What is it?’ I ask in wonder. ‘Don’t move, there’s a hole, right there. I can’t see any holes? Just lots of green grass and leafs. WAITE! He could be right, I mean there is lots more leaves and sticks here then any where else here. Do I believe him? Is it a trap? Do we turn back? What to do? Yes! I mean he’s only joking, right? Page 8 NO! I don’t won’t to die! Page 6

  7. Page 6 I know he jokes all the time, but now, he looks serious! We turn around. Out of the peaceful path we carry on down the rough one. Man it’s rough, steep, and hard! But we are determined to get to the top! As we stumble along slowly, and tiredly, we come along a cliff face. ‘Dead end’ was my first thought. ‘Yes, we can rest’ was my second. But no! My wonderful thoughts were interrupted by the glancing up of mum! Turn to the next page

  8. Page 7 Unfortunately when mum glanced up so did we to see 5 long skinny, and grip-less ropes. I gazed up at mum recognizing the devious smile on her face. ‘NOOO!’ I thought. I was scared. Mum was going to make us climb those ropes to the top… wow she was determined! I knew we would have no choice but to. So before she could speak one word… I started climbing. Everyone followed. The knew that smile to. Turn to page 13

  9. Page 8 Of course he’s only joking, right? He does it all the time. I take one step carefully. Two Three ‘HHEELLPP!!’ I scream this as my family and I to the bottom of… guess what? A HOLE!! I’m terrified. Days pass, months. We are all so hungry. Soon we will all starve! I regret that choice I made… The choice to carry THE END

  10. Page 9 The ferry starts slowing down! There is a huge mountain in front of us. ‘You have just arrived at Rangatoto island’ As soon as I heard that voice I jumped for joy. ‘Please depart through the back of our ferry.’ We’re o the island. Finally! What joy! We depart from the ferry and gather the family. ‘Right everyone, this way to the top!’ ‘But mum, This sign says to the top?’ What?!! Two signs? Right looks peaceful and calm, Left looks rough and steep! What way? Calm path. Page 5 Rough path page 3

  11. Page 10 Suddenly, my arm is nearly torn of as a unknown force leads me along. ‘Lets go darling, we’ll miss our ferry!” I hear mum say. I hope she’s right! In less than 30 seconds we’re on the ferry. I can’t sit still, I still think we’re on the wrong ferry. Mum’s grumpy. I dare not go near her right now! You can just about see the steam coming out of her ears. She looks like a mad train. ‘What's wrong with mum?’ asks my sister curiously. ‘Mum’s mad because the ferry is so slow.’ I reply.

  12. Page 11 We don’t want to keep going up steep paths. No way! So we pick the other. Though it doesn't look to reliable, dad decides to try to read the sign. He spits on the sign, and rubs it in. You can make out the words now. It reads- ‘!CAUTION! Don’t carry on for there is huge risks of Avalanches!’ !wow! I’m glad we stopped! As we stroll down the mountain discussing how lucky we are to have our lives, someone asks ‘when is the ferry getting here?’ ‘5:30’ replies mum ‘what's the time then?’ 6:00, WHAT, 6:00? We’ve missed the ferry! OH, NO, what’ll we do? We’re stuck here! ‘We could build a raft?’ Yeah, sail back to land’ Turn to next page.

  13. OH, NO, what’ll we do? We’re stuck here! ‘We could build a raft?’ Yeah, sail back to land’ So that’s exactly what we did. We start collecting all the sticks, vines, logs, anything we can find! We finish of and start sailing. All the vines we rapped around the logs were placed together, but had the slightest little gaps in between. Just taking a second look over them now, they didn’t look to strong! It was surprizing though seeing as we had logs underneath, then a layer of sticks one way and a other layer of sticks the other way! We travel 2m, 5m, 10… we are doing al right, until… ‘The logs, there floating away!’ The vines start to untangle, the sticks snap! NNOOO!, were starting to float away! No one can swim, we’ll all drown!!! I regret coming on this trip! Good-bye world, good-bye!THE END! THE END!

  14. Page 13 Slowly up, up, up, we all climbed. Our goal… to get to the top! But my thoughts on that goal were, ‘are you kidding me?’ The ropes were slippery, and my hands were sweaty. What a perfect match! !!NOT!! ‘AAHHH’ I was Slipping, my hands were losing grip! ‘Mum, I can’t hold on much longer!’ I scream this as one of my hands slip, then feet, Both of them! I’m holding on by one hand, soon I’ll fall! Bye mum, bye dad. I love you! I slip.
