  1. Your PowerPoint Presentation Open PowerPoint, or, if open, use: File > New Choose a Slide Layout Format > Slide Layout > Select Create slides by typing in text boxes Add to slides using copy/paste or insert menu Add more slides using: Insert > New Slide

  2. You can either use a plain-colored background or a picture. Or, if you want to use a pre-set background, choose from the design templates. Avoid background themes that distract from your information or don’t provide enough contrast with your text. To choose a slide design: Format > Slide Design > Select a Design > Apply

  3. To use a picture as background, make sure to brighten it so your text is readable. To use a picture background: Insert > Picture > From File > Choose picture > Insert To brighten a picture: Right Click on picture > Format Picture > Picture Tab > Brightness slider > OK
