Definition • Appropriate appearance refers to the way information is relayed or presented on an interface/screen. • Where do we need it? • Designing Websites • Designing Interactive interfaces such as TV screens • Newspapers, books, magazines

Benefits of Appropriate Appearance • Visibility purposes • Navigational purposes • Easy Feedback • User Friendly • Consistency purposes • Easy to find
Principles/guidelines of Appropriate Appearances • Consistency • Allow user to control the interaction • Do not use too many colours: use pastel colours • Keep interface Simple • Indicate passage time e.g. hourglass • Indicate visited areas i.e. Fade areas • Use familiar metaphors e.g. bin to show recycle area • Use of Graphics and attractive displays • Use multimedia applications but limit use of sound
Conclusion • While designing appropriate appearances on interfaces consider the: • User i.e. person using the interface • Customer/client i.e. person/organisation that requires it
