  5. Tribes Each class will be split into several tribes of 3 to 5 students. Tribes will work together during the immunity and reward challenges to earn points. Inappropriate behavior or disruptive behavior will result in a loss of points. Tribes will be assigned colors and will create their own name. (Names must be appropriate!) Let’s get started …

  6. Immunity Challenges Immunity challenges will relate to many different topics. The theme of each challenge will be revealed in The Survivor Tree Mail announcement of the day. Teams will earn points based on the efforts and results that they have on each challenge. All tribes have the chance to earn points!

  7. Survivor Rules Good sportsmanship is expected at all times. The teacher’s decision is final! Play fair! Cheating and dishonest behavior will result in a loss of points. Alliances are ok. In fact, we actually encourage you to support your fellow tribes and offer assistance but not answers. Play like a champion today! Work hard, play hard!

Tribe Tasks for Today • Meet your tribe. • Participate in No Fear Activity • Design your shield. • Respond to the questions about your shield. • Share your shield with your tribe. • Work together to design your tribe’s banner. Sketch your ideas on paper. Include a symbol from each tribe member. When your group reaches consensus, then begin to create your banner. • Incorporate your tribe’s colors into the banner design. • Brainstorm ideas about your tribe’s name following your teacher’s parameters.

  9. Tribal Council Complete the summary tool for the day.Each tribe member will be called up to write the name of one person that has done a particularly great job today. Immunity Necklaces will be awarded to those who are chosen.

  11. What is a durable person? • A durable person is a person who can survive the day-to-day struggles of life and still be satisfied, productive, and happy.

  12. Gifted children present a uniqueness when addressing their social and emotional needs. For a gifted child to meet both academic and social potentials, care and support must be provided for their emotional needs. We want gifted students to not only survive, but to THRIVE!

What traits do successful people exhibit? • The How to Be a Durable person curriculum is designed to help gifted children explore their own giftedness, expand social skills , cultivate leadership skills and develop strategies for combating stress, anger, and perfectionism. Gifted children must be taught to be durable so they can continue to be responsible and productive citizens.

  15. Each of us has an incredible path in life. • Our life's experiences can make us feel like the little ball in a pinball game. Up, down, wham, bam, over and over. Yet every single one of those experiences add up to the  total being of who we are now.For all of us, the most important thing to learn is to better understand ourselves and thus understand others that we encounter along the way.

  16. Science Survivor Card #1 • Ice Melting is a Chemical or Physical Change? • You have 3 minutes to work as a team to melt 5 pieces of ice.
