  13. 2009 SRTC Highlights and Accomplishments • Barbara Leary of ATK TPC served as 2009 JPC Solid Rockets Session organizer • 15 sessions and 61 technical papers • 2 special sessions for Dr. Kuo and tactical missiles (panel) • Thanks to TC members helping chair sessions! • Developing and forwarding new lessons learned to 2010 JPC organizer • Fred Blomshield of NSWC is serving as the 2010 Solid Rockets Session organizer-will provide status • Need 2011 and 2012 SRTC conference chairs!

  14. 2009 SRTC Highlights and Accomplishments (cont) • Lead Wyld Award selection process • Selected best SRM paper for presentation at awards ceremony • Sent out SRM educational road show kits • Held SRTC meeting at 2009 Aerospace Sciences Meeting in Orlando • Provided $1000 to Auburn University for student projects

  15. 2009 SRTC Highlights and Accomplishments (cont) • Held SRTC meeting at 2009 JPC in Denver • Continuing to promote membership upgrades within SRTC and maintain dynamic and broad membership population • Michel Berdoyes upgraded to associate fellow • All members should apply for senior member upgrade…it’s so easy!

SRTC Plans for 2010 and Beyond (Old Business) • Update 1985 SRTC position paper, “Solid Rockets for Space: An Evaluation of our National Capability” • “SRM Industrial Capabilities Report to Congress, Redacted Version ,” June 2009, Office of Under Secretary of Defense, Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Industrial Policy • Develop “Solid Rocket Fundamentals” textbook in cooperation with University of Alabama in Huntsville and MAE 695 graduate course • Possible Solid Rockets Hall of Fame website • History and Communications Committees need to collaborate • Does anyone know of someone who wants and lives to be a webmaster?

SRTC Plans for 2010 and Beyond (Old Business - cont) • Prior 3 items need a champion, a leader • Develop requirements – objective/goal • Create a plan with discrete tasks • Assign staff • Create a schedule • Yes, these are worthwhile endeavors but will not happen without support • Do we want to support these activities? • Move these items to a Parking Lot for future consideration

SRTC Needs to Continue Support of Existing Committee Projects • Continue record of excellence with annual 2-page Solid Rockets highlights article for Aerospace America magazine • Don’t’ let 2009 start a trend! • Also, don’t be afraid to delegate and ask for help! • Continue with best paper awards • Continue to support and lead Wyld Award • Continue to acknowledge SRTC staff with internal awards • Continue to support JPC by being a session chair or conference chair • Continue to interact with local sections • Don’t be afraid to ask for money to support youth activities

SRTC Plans for 2010 and Beyond (New Business-2) • What do we want to do and what can we do better? • Reviewed P&E metrics • Student involvement • TC members working with universities and local sections • TC member judge papers at ASM, JPC, etc? • Student best paper from ASM, JPC, etc? • Student design competitions? • Student research – how can we get our money into their hands? • Keep giving it to Auburn? • Develop process with Betty Guille to have a more timely approach to providing money

SRTC Plans for 2010 and Beyond (New Business-3) • What do we want to do and what can we do better? • Reviewed P&E metrics • Book publishing • Journal articles – should best paper(s) be considered? • Liaison to other TC’s – should we have someone be a contact to History, Hybrids, and Propellants and Combustion? • Propose…Butch Foster – History TC and Fred Blomshield-P&C? • Increase awards • More best papers awards - 2? • Best paper awards for young professionals and professionals (over 35 years old)? • Best student paper award? • Lifetime and/or Pioneer Award (SRTC) • Cool plaque with a cool title with new cool SRTC logo?

Do TC members participate with their local sections? • More ideas from the TC members • Propose something you would like to do! • AIAA SRTC serves you and you community! • What new topics or initiatives do we want to take on? • Liaisons, lifetime achievement award, next short course, increase student involvement, etc?

Action Items • 2008 • Solicit more nominees for SR TC’s – all • Hall of Fame website – Fisher/Leary/Foster • Coordinate student design competition with AIAA-Black • Lessons learned from JPC organizing to be passed on – Ellis, Friedlander, and now Leary • 2009 • Ensure SRTC article is on 2010 December AA! • SRTC annual report due by the end of January 2010

Action Items (cont) • 2010 • Increase level of personal communication among SRTC leadership – telecoms – C2 • Input on a realistic level of activities that we can support and follow through on • C2 will send out an email in Feb • Foster to contact History TC and become or designate a liaison • Need liaison to P&C TC • Etc.
