  3. About The Prince’s Trust  Around one in five young people in the UK are not in work, education or training.  Youth unemployment costs the UK economy £10 million a day in lost productivity, while youth crime costs £1 billion every year.

  4. About The Prince’s Trust  Weaddress this by giving practical and financial support to the young people who need it most, enabling them to develop key skills, confidence and motivation; and to move into work, education or training.  We run programmes that encourage young people to take responsibility for themselves – helping them build the life they choose rather than the one they’ve ended up with.

  5. Get into - What is it? ‘Get into’ is a short course offering intensive training and experience in a specific sector to help young people get a job.  The Get into programme gives young people, who are work-ready but do not have the vocational skills, the opportunity to develop the relevant vocational skills and/or experience to enable them to move into a sustainable job in a specific sector of work.

  6. Who is Get into for? • Unemployed 16-25 year-olds who are work ready • Those who can demonstrate interest to work in the sector of the programme

  7. Get into aims to: • achieve sustainable employment • develop work related skills – teamwork, reliability, hard work, communication, specific vocational skills • provide accreditation / qualifications – where relevant vocational accreditation or qualifications can be achieved by individuals on the programme

  8. How does it work? • Programme developed with national or local employers to ensure it is relevant to the sector • Selection Process which includes Assessment Interviews, followed by a Taster Day • 2 – 6 week course with vocational training with qualifications/ accreditation where relevant • Celebration event at end of course with friends, family and local employers invited • 6 months follow up support after the course finishes

Get into young people 10/11 Last year we supported 2,096 young people nationally through Get into • 66% were educational underachievers • 14% were offenders/ex-offenders • 6% were in or leaving care • 13% were disabled • 3% were lone parents • 1% were refugees/asylum seekers • 15% were non-white ethnic minorities

  11. What it meant to the young people “I think the course the course has been very helpful. It made me realise what customer service is.   14. Michael Collins “I did not enjoy School and left with a couple of ‘E’ grades aged 16. I went on to have large amounts of time unemployed taking occasional bar and call centre temp work. In May 2011 I managed to gain a place on the Get into Construction course whilst claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance. This four week programme gave me support, training, a CSCS card and real on-site work placements – one was with ‘Rilmac’ Scaffolding. I would recommend this programme to anyone interested in the Construction industry as it has boosted my confidence, given me training and contacts but most importantly enabled me to find the job with Rilmac. A job I actually see a future in!” In addition to securing a job Michael’s hard work and motivation has secured him a place as a finalist in Youthbuild UK’s Young Builder of the Year Awards 2011. He is now well and truly on the road to success.

Get into outcomes 10/11  Last year 72% of young people achieved positive outcomes after completing the Get into programme • 54% moved into employment • 19% went on to further education or training • 5% went on to volunteer in their local community  98% would recommend The Prince’s Trust to others  83% felt they had improved their skills  87% felt they had developed personally

  16. How can you be a part of this? The Get into programme is dependent on successful partnerships with experts in the sector. We’re looking for partners who will work with us enable us to create and deliver programmes that offer young people: • high quality vocational training, • the chance to meet employers and to understand the industry • where possible the opportunity to apply for jobs at the end of the programme.
