  3. Pepin the Short(Pepin III) • Became the Merovingian kingdom’s joint mayor of the palace with his brother Carloman. • Charles Martel was his father, who died in 741.

  4. Pepin III’s coronation established the Carolingians. (new line of Frankish rulers) • Led a Frankish army into Italy and defeated the Lombards. • Charlemagne is Pepin’s son and was the greatest of all Frankish Kings. • 751-Was anointed King of the Franks.
