  1. South Wales Police BID South Wales Police CrossFit Throwdown Bid Venue CrossFit Cardiff Proposed Dates:- Monday 16th & Tuesday 17th September 2019 Committee members -Stuart Edwards, Stephen Hughes, John Williams, Jody Pritchard & James Tincombe.

  2. South Wales Police BID SWP CrossFit section attended the inaugural Police CrossFit Throwdown hosted by Devon and Cornwall Police, with the event taking place over two days at CrossFit PI in September 2018. South Wales Police entered two teams finishing 6th and 28th overall. As a result of the huge success, South Wales Police are keen to host this event during September 2019 in Cardiff, the Capital city of wales. We are fully supported by our Chief Constable Matt JUKES in hosting the 2019 competition. SWP are looking to keep the same format and run the competition over a 2 day period with the proposed dates being (Monday & Tuesday) 9th & 10th or the 16th & 17th September 2019. These dates have taken into consideration of annual leave/school holidays over this period, which should allow for Forces to select their best teams. Our aim is to host the event at CrossFit Cardiff https://www.crossfitcardiff.com/#main-banner where we would utilise all of their facilities and the venue is easily accessible to the M4 motorway, railway and Cardiff airport. There are many options available for accommodation with a number of local hotels being only 10 minutes from CrossFit Cardiff. We will be looking to get all teams into one hotel and when we have the number of teams confirmed taking part we can arrange for everyone to get together after the first day for some food and evening entertainment. Food and everything else will be confirmed closer to the date. South Wales Police representatives have worked closely with Devon and Cornwall to obtain as much feedback as possible from the event they hosted in 2018, they have provided the relevant information about the successful event and we will take any feedback into consideration if we are successful.

  3. CrossFit What is CrossFit? CrossFit is a fitness regime developed by Greg Glassman over several decades. Glassman, CrossFit's Founder and CEO, was the first person in history to define fitness in a meaningful, measurable way: increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains. He then created a program specifically designed to improve fitness and health. CrossFit is constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. All CrossFit workouts are based on functional movements, and these movements reflect the best aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing and more. These are the core movements of life. They move the largest loads the longest distances, so they are ideal for maximizing the amount of work done in the shortest time. Intensity is essential for results and is measurable as work divided by time—or power. The more work you do in less time, or the higher the power output, the more intense the effort. By employing a constantly varied approach to training, functional movements and intensity lead to dramatic gains in fitness. The community that spontaneously arises when people do these workouts together is a key component of why CrossFit is so effective, and it gave birth to a global network of CrossFit affiliates that number over 13,000. Harnessing the natural camaraderie, competition and fun of sport or game yields an intensity that cannot be matched by other means. The CrossFit program is driven by data. Using whiteboards as scoreboards, keeping accurate scores and records, running a clock, and precisely defining the rules and standards for performance, we not only motivate unprecedented output but derive both relative and absolute metrics at every workout. This data has important value well beyond motivation. Overall, the aim of CrossFit is to forge a broad, general and inclusive fitness supported by measurable, observable and repeatable results. The program prepares trainees for any physical contingency—not only for the unknown but for the unknowable, too. Our specialty is not specializing. While CrossFit challenges the world's fittest, the program is designed for universal scalability, making it the perfect application for any committed individual, regardless of experience. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change the program. The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree, not kind.

  4. CrossFit CrossFit is a passion; an addiction; a lifestyle; a family; a community; an outlet; a challenge; a sport. CrossFit makes you better! Whether you want to be a better dad, lower your blood pressure, perform better on your team or be able to play with your grandkids, CrossFit will let you. Better people make better CrossFitters. CrossFit is in the business of developing and maintaining health. The past is purely for reference; we care about your future. We blend weightlifting, gymnastics and cardiovascular pursuits, in an unlimited number of ways to ensure your body is always guessing; always improving; never stagnating and never getting bored. We inject passion, support, care and camaraderie into every person who crosses our threshold. We are wonderfully welcoming yet fiercely loyal, we are a team. We remain humble and hungry and will be your guide.

  5. Why Cardiff? Welcome to Cardiff - The Capital City of Walesoffers a startling range of unique attractions, top class entertainment and quality shopping with a difference – all within walking distance. Innovative architecture sits alongside historic buildings and Cardiff Bay offers entertainment for everyone. Wales’ capital Cardiff is a small but vibrant city with plenty to see and do. It has the River Taff running through it and a castle in its centre, surrounded by the beautiful Bute Park. It’s safe to say there’s plenty of reasons everyone should visit! The hospitality - the Welsh are well known for their hospitable nature, humour and charm. You can usually count on a warm welcome wherever you go, especially when Wales is playing a rugby match at the stadium. The pubs and bars will be full of locals cheering, singing, drinking and enjoying themselves, and you’re bound to have a good time with them, even if you’re there wearing the shirt of the other team. The sport - The city is sport-centred like no other. There are the venues Cardiff Arms Park and the Millennium Stadium right in the middle of the town, with the latter being visible for miles around. Cardiff has played host to FA Cup finals, Rugby League Challenge Cup finals and many more games. Cardiff is also big on cricket, with Sophia Gardens cricket grounds (aka, The SSE SWALEC Cardiff) being the headquarters of the Glamorgan CCC. The club has more than 7,000 members and also runs the Welsh Cricket Academy. The cricket stadium underwent a multi-million-pound refurbishment to host the first ‘England’ v Australia Test Match of the 2009 Ashes series. For ice hockey fans, there’s Cardiff’s professional ice-hockey team, the Cardiff Devils, who now practice down at Cardiff Bay at the Ice Arena Wales.

  6. Why Cardiff? The nightlife - You may have heard rumours about Cardiff and the amount of hen dos and stag parties it attracts, as well as the binge drinking which goes on, and that may or may not be a good thing for you, but the city is a great place for a night out – whatever you’re into. Welsh pubs are notoriously lively, with live music, craft ales and friendly locals. And there are loads of clubs where you can dance to the music you like and generally have a whale of a time. Cardiff Castle - Cardiff Castle has much to set it apart, from the breath-taking, kaleidoscope-effect Arab Room to the Animal Wall, which consists of a row of stone animal sculptures each perched on different parts of the outer wall. The castle used to have live peacocks roaming its grounds, and it was common to find a plume on the floor. Those days are gone now, but there are still references to the birds dotted around. Entry to the castle costs £10, and there’s also the option of doing a ghost tour at night, going from room to room by candlelight, hearing the gruesome goings-on of the past and the many ghost sightings is an unforgettable experience. Rich in ancient history, sporting excitement, romantic ambience, eclectic culture and ‘out of this world’ activities, Cardiff is the perfect holiday destination for families, couples and groups. Cardiff is a thriving city, just 2 hours by train from London. And much, much more…….

During the event a designated person will be responsible for the presentation, handling of all the prizes which will take place straight after the final work out on day 2.

  15. FUNCTION As the event will be held over two days and the likelihood of people staying after the event on day 2 will be slim, it will be proposed to hold a function/meal on the evening of day 1. Any sponsorship which is received will be offset against either the cost of entry fees or even the accommodation of the competitors and will be distributed appropriately.
