  1. Update: FleetForum Pilot

  2. Fleet Forum Pilot • Launched last year at the Fleet Forum Annual Conference in Dubai. • 2 organizations were chosen after many applications, to trial 10 Mobileye systems each. • Catholic Relief Services and Riders for Health, were chosen to pilot the system in their fleet in Nigeria. 09/12/10

  3. Road Safety in Nigeria In the developing world, traffic collisions will become the fifth leading cause of death, leapfrogging past HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and other familiar killers. Poor countries account for 50 percent of the world’s road traffic but 90 percent of the traffic fatalities. In Nigeria, traffic collisions are claiming 140 lives each day. Traffic Collisions, cost Nigeria 4% of its GDP.

  4. The cause of accidents Other: 7% Misc.: 20% 93% Human Factor: 80% 3-secondlack of attention Virginia Tech Transportation Institute released findings of breakthrough research on real-world driver behavior, distraction and crash factors. Nearly 80% of crashes, and 65% of near crashes involved some form of driver inattention within 3 seconds before the event. Source: http://vtrc.virginiadot.org/briefdetails.aspx?id=19

  6. Fleet Forum Pilot • At the end of November the Mobileye systems were installed in 10 CRS vehicles ‘blind’. • In the middle of January, these systems were switched live, so the drivers would receive the in vehicle alerts to prevent dangerous situations. • In January the systems were installed in the Riders vehicles and a period of blind testing started. 09/12/10

  7. Pilot Results to Date • CRS data shows a significant reduction in dangerous situations. • Data is used to coach drivers who are demonstrating dangerous driving behaviour. • Regular conference calls conducted with the project team to define actions based on the data. • It is still to early to see any results from Riders vehicles, as the systems have only just been switched live. 09/12/10

  8. Improving Driving Patterns 62% Reduction 52% Reduction 09/12/10 55% Reduction 74% Reduction 66% Reduction

  9. Feedback CRS - Nigeria • ‘The system has identified weaknesses and this has helped the drivers make adjustments to improve identified areas such as excessive speeding’ • ‘The current results are showing improvements in driver behaviours and this is commendable’ • ‘We had some challenges as there were initially disbelieve of captured data by drivers. This is however been overcome by marked improvement that is observed in recent reports’ • ‘The data from the system is shared with all approved drivers so observed areas of concern can be improved upon’ • ‘All beneficiaries of the system consider this as an interesting method of being watchful and careful when behind the wheels. However, sometimes staff complain about several beepings from the vehicles’ 09/12/10

  10. Fleet Forum Pilot – Next Steps • We will continue to monitor the results, for both organizations in the pilot and look forward to providing further results. • Whilst the Mobileye is a life saving technology that will protect your organizations employees, and the citizens of the countries you are working in, by actually preventing the collision. • The reporting functionality of the system, also allows you to go back and find which drivers have specific areas that they need to improve on and target these areas or drivers with increased driver training to ensure their safety. 09/12/10
