Bombs away! • German bombers bombed the cities over and over again. • Many people were killed and their homes were destroyed.
Fires and devastation • Firemen worked hard, but many buildings were destroyed before they could put out the fires. • The bombing made the cities and large towns very dangerous for people to live in.
People hid in the Underground Where are the children? In London people used the Underground as a series of bomb shelters. When the sirens sounded they rushed down!
Evacuation • Many children were evacuated to the country. • They had to leave their parents behind. • Sometimes the people they stayed with were not very kind to them.
