  23. There will be many Peter/Paul relationships in a lifetime: • You will study with several mentors during your lifetime and will form a different relationship with each. Each will play a different role. • Not every mentor is equally accomplished – they will be gifted in different ways. © C. L. Hale Ministries, Inc.

  24. The appropriate relationship between you and your master will depend on the spiritual level of each of you. • Your relationship with your mentor will deepen and change as you proceed along your spiritual path. • You will never cease apprenticing under a Peter or a Paul. © C. 25. How does one choose a Yoda? • Choose your Yoda carefully and prayerfully. • Don’t hitch your wagon to any single star or listen to any one voice that seems to attract a following. • There are three basic characteristics of a authentic Yoda. • Humility • Honesty • Honor © C. L. Hale Ministries, Inc.

  26. Humility I am just a simple monk – often the first words out of the mouth of the Dalai Lama before he speaks. His title means “Oceans of Wisdom”. © C. L. Hale Ministries, Inc.

  29. An ideal Yoda is a One-who-knows….but a One-who-know-who knows he or she doesn’t know it all. • True Yodas see themselves as always as student and will not allow the student to withhold from their teacher. • True Yodas want to study with you, not demand you to study under them. • True Yodas are not stuck on themselves; they are not legends in their own minds, even if they are truly one. © C. L. Hale Ministries, Inc.

  30. They are not braggarts. • The one who knows much says little; an understanding person remains calm. Proverbs 17:27 MSG • True Yodas are more interested in you and your development in Christ. © C. L. Hale Ministries, Inc.

  31. John 20:15-17 © C. L. Hale Ministries, Inc.

  32. Honesty The best Yoda will be honest enough to share their secrets with you. © C. L. Hale Ministries, Inc.

  33. Yodas don’t tell all their secrets. © C. L. Hale Ministries, Inc.

  34. Honor Honor is important because in honoring (like worshipping) you become like the one you honor. © C. L. Hale Ministries, Inc.

  35. To be blessed by and to bless a mentor are two of life’s blessings. © C. L. Hale Ministries, Inc.

  36. How does one honor a Yoda? © C. L. Hale Ministries, Inc.

  38. A thorn in the flesh. © C. L. Hale Ministries, Inc.

  39. Every good Yoda trains a student to ask questions like lawyers are trained to “think otherwise” and to find their own way to think and do things. © C. L. Hale Ministries, Inc.

  40. Discussion • To whom do you look for guidance in your life? • Are they all close by, or are some in other states and countries? • If one of the key roles of a Yoda is to help you hear, listen to yourself, to others, and listen to God to discover, who has been that Yoda in your life?   © C. L. Hale Ministries, Inc.
