  1. Intro to Energy

  2. We use energy all the time often without realizing it as it exists in many forms. • How have you used energy today? List 3 examples • A.) • B.) • C.) What is Energy?

  3. Energy is the ability to do work or produce heat and light • (Work is movement over a distance) What is energy?

  4. You use your body’s heat and chemical energy when you work to clean your room, run to catch a ball, and even when you think about your homework! • Plants use the sun’s light energy to grow and produce oxygen; both growing and producing are forms of work to a plant. • A radio uses electrical energy to produce sound. • A mill uses mechanical energy to grind grain. How is energy related to work?

  5. Heat/Chemical Clean, run, think Grow and produce Light Electrical Produces Mechanical Grinds grain What is the form of energy and how it showed work?

  6. Think of two more examples to show how energy is related to work • Example A.) • Example B.) What is the form of energy and how it showed work?

  7. Baseball Because it falls Gravity/ gravitational Energy Motorcycle Hand pushing it/ mechanical energy It rolls Tennis Ball Because it bounces Hitting the surface/ mechanical energy Flashlight Battery/ chemical energy Light is produced Ice Cube Because it’s melting Hand/ thermal or heat energy Atoms/ nuclear energy Because it explodes Bomb Shaking soda/ mechanical Soda fizz Hear sound from the fizz Wall outlet/Electric energy Cord light comes on
