F.Y.I. • He was born on April 2nd, 1891 in Brühl, Germany. • He lived in Paris and Saint Martin d'Ardèche, which is in the South of France. • Max was part of 2 major art movements, Dada and Surrealism. • He worked with many mediums including collage, paint, and sculpture. • Much of his work was experimental and unexpected (that’s why I like him).

  3. Fruit of a Long Experience. 1919. Painted wood relief. • Shows Max’s love of strange materials, which relates to Dadaism.

  4. Aquissubmersus. 1919. oil on canvas. • Shows the abstract side of surrealism, relates to the unconscious and dreaming.

  5. Le Limaçon de chambre. 1920. Tempera, goache, ink, pencil, collage on paper. • Shows Ernst’s use of collage during his Dada days.
