“Let Me Die The Death Of The Righteous”

“Let Me Die The Death Of The Righteous”. “A good name is better than precious ointment and the day of death than the day of one’s birth” (Eccl. 7:1-4). A Wonderful Wish. So my family can remember me as a man of God. So I can stand as an example to others, like a Job or a Daniel.

  1. “Let Me Die The Death Of The Righteous” “A good name is better than precious ointment and the day of death than the day of one’s birth” (Eccl. 7:1-4).

  2. A Wonderful Wish • So my family can remember me as a man of God. • So I can stand as an example to others, like a Job or a Daniel. • So I can face death unafraid, with confidence and not terror. • “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints” (Psa. 116:15).

  3. Thanatopsis – William Cullen Bryant • …So live, that when thy summons comes to join/ The innumerable caravan which moves/ To that mysterious realm, where each shall take/ His chamber in the silent halls of death,/ Thou go not, like the quarry slave at night,/ Scourged to his dungeon, but, sustained and soother/ By an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave/ Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch/ About him, and lies down to pleasant dreams.

  4. Some Can’t Die This Death • The one who expressed the desire – Balaam – Numbers 22:10. • Toward the end of the 40 years of wandering. • As Israel marches in conquest, Balaam dies with the enemies of God – Josh. 13:22. • Many can’t die the death of the righteous:

  5. Those Who Walk After The Flesh • Gal. 5:19-21 • The flesh “calls” us. But so does the Spirit. • Which do you answer? • There is a consequence of the answer.

  6. The Unruly Member Of God’s Family • Titus 1:10-13 • No parent likes to see their children fight. • But children’s disagreements aren’t “fatal”. • Too many adults mean to hurt. • We can’t live like this and still go to heaven.

  7. Those Who Hinder Others From Obeying God • Acts 13:8-10 – A nonbeliever who fought the truth. • Matt. 23:13 – A “believer” who makes it more difficult than God did. • Our job is to help, teach, comfort, encourage. • So we can be like Jesus, and go to heaven.

  8. Those Who Hear The Word and Refuse to Yield • Acts 13:46; Matt. 13:15 • Changing is so difficult. • But so worthwhile.

  9. We Must Also Warn The Wicked • Ezek 3:18-21 • If they repent and turn, we have saved a soul – James 5:16-20 • We and They may die a righteous death. • And heaven awaits.
