  1. October 2014 Primary 3 Classroom Newsletter The children are continuing to settle in to P3. We are encouraging them to be more independent and to take more pride in their work. Please do the same with homework.  Our ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ topic was a great success. The children really enjoyed listening to the story and they LOVED making banana muffins. Please ensure you complete every task on the homework sheet. Each piece of work should be named and dated. Please also remember that children should be reading to an adults AT LEAST twice a week. To keep track of this we would appreciate if reading records were signed. • The ethos and life of the school as a community In Primary 3, the children have the opportunity to earn house points. These are collected weekly and a monthly reward of extra play is arranged for the winning house. This encourages a community atmosphere amongst year groups. • Curriculum areas and subjects In language we will be looking at using joining words to improve our sentences. In maths we will be using addition and subtraction strategies. Our topic is ‘Inventions and Inventors’. We will be learning about everyday objects and why they were invented. • Interdisciplinary learning Through our topic we will be completing a design project to create our own inventions. We will be using skills learned in language, maths and art to design and create our inventions. • Opportunities for personal achievement The children will soon be writing some of their own targets for their achievement books. Please discuss your child’s target with them and support them in reaching these targets.
