  1. Dewstow Primary School Plaza Hydref Newsletter Welcome back! Hopefully we have all had a good summer and have come back eager to share new learning. The teaching team consists of: Mrs Mineur Mrs White (Tuesday – Friday) Miss Hiscox (Monday only) Miss Griffiths (LSA) Mrs Burrows (LSA) Mrs Lund (LSA) Miss Nash (LSA) With Mrs Bryant (HLTA / LSA) providing some extra support. Our Topic: Our topic this term is an Art, Geography and History skills topic: New Visionswhich looks at Caldicot past, present and future. The children are developing their skills at researching using a variety of evidence deciding which information is important. Their knowledge of the locality and history of Caldicot is in increasing. We have already spent time out in Caldicot looking at buildings and uses of areas. Year 4 will be visiting Waitrose to find out about the organisation of a supermarket. You are invited to an exhibition on Friday 4th October at 2pm where you will learn about Caldicot. Home things Please can you encourage your child to read their Home reading books regularly. We would like them to change their book at least twice a week. They will be having rewards for the number of books they read - further information to follow. Tuck Fruit tuck is available everyday at a cost of 20p. Once a month we have ‘Fruity Friday’ where the children have free fruit tuck kindly donated by Waitrose. We are a healthy school so if your child is bringing tuck from home it needs to be healthy. Christmas The children will be writing and performing a Pantomime for you which will be held on Wednesday 18th December at 1:30pm. Number Facts Our children will be having a number facts challenge every Friday. Your child will know which facts they need to practise at home.

  2. School times ... We are having quite a number of children who are arriving in the Plaza after 9:00am. This disrupts the children’s morning routine and can unsettle them so please can we ensure that everyone is in by 9:00am. Please note school ends at 3pm. If you wish your child to walk around to another Plaza as you collect younger siblings or walk home on their own please let us know! Celebration Service .... Dewstow Primary School will be holding a weekly Celebration Service at 2.30pm. Each week two children in each Plaza will be nominated by staff and we will endeavour to inform parents of those children in order for you to attend. All parents are welcome to attend. Please encourage children to bring in any special achievement awards they have received in their outside interests e.g. swimming, football, piano etc. Physical Education ... Please can you ensure your child is well equipped for P.E lessons. It is best if PE kit is kept in school all week and then taken home when it requires washing. The children will need an outdoor P.E. Kit which needs to include outdoor daps / trainers. Please label kit (and uniform) so that we can locate the owner of any missing items! We will be having Dragon’s Rugby and also Newport County Football coaching on a Thursday so appropriate kit is vital! We would welcome ‘Parent Helpers’ to help in the Plazas and on trips and walks. You will need to be CRB checked. Come and see Mrs Mineur if you are interested. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter: @DewstowPrimary and Facebook Finally .... Here at Dewstow Primary School we have an open door policy. If you have any concerns or want to discuss your child’s progress, please do not hesitate to come and see us! We will do our best to help!
