Culture traits • Culture: All the features of people’s way of living. Those features are passed down from parents to children through teaching ,example , and imitation • Culture aspects such as family ,food, beliefs, shared values, religion, architecture, government ,economics and clothing. • Culture traits :Activities and behaviors that people often take part. • Culture traits vary form place to place. For example most Americans and people round the world eat with knife, fork and spoon. • Traits only for specific group such as Chinese nation easts with chopsticks and Ethiopians people eats with their fingers or use bread to scoop their food.
Culture Region: A geographical area in which people have many shared culture traits.Ethnic Group ; is human population that shares a common culture or people of the same race or nationality who share a distinctive culture
Acculturation • Acculturation: When an individual or group adopt some of the of the traits of another culture.
Assimilation • Assimilation: When immigrant groups adopt all of the features of the main culture . • Just as the Romans did in ancient Egypt, they worshiped the same gods and dressed like Egyptians people • The Romans adopted all the Egyptian culture and folklore. • Just as Napoleon Bonaparte did when he conquered Egypt, he dressed like Egyptians and visited the mosques and ate their food.
Innovation and Diffusion • Innovation: Refers to new idea that culture accept. • Diffusion: When idea (or innovation) spreads from one person or group to another and is adopted. For example Jazz , The American form of music that took hold in New Orleans . Later ,it spread to other parts of the United States and the world.
Types of diffusion people of the same race or nationality who share a distinctive culture Expansion Diffusion Relocation Diffusion Hierarchical Diffusion Information about a new idea or innovation Spreads thought a society Culture traits also spread when people move to new places and take their culture with them. That how English ,an European language ,became the main language in Australia and New Zealand .Religion often spread through this type of diffusion. For example, Judaism diffused throughout the United States with European immigrants. Indian culture effected kuwatian society ,Syrian culture effected Egyptian people Culture traits spread from places of greater size and influence to smaller place ,For example ,new fashions and music and styles often begin in Los Angeles or New York .These larger cities are centers of the entertainment industry .
Globalization • The process in which connection around the world increase and cultures become more alike is called globalization.
Traditionalism & Fundamentalism • Traditionalism: The opposite of globalization traditionalism .Traditionalism means following longtime practice and opposing many modern technologies and idea. • Fundamentalism; has been a reaction to the spread of modern culture. • The word fundamentalism can describe any movement in which people believe in strictly following certain established principal or teachings.
