  2. Post World War I • Post-war: people want to forget the losses from WWI and get back to normal lives and enjoy life A. ECONOMY • Economic period of adjustment • War: demand = high & prices rose • After: production cut, or factories closed down altogether • = war veterans - jobs were hard to find • high unemployment

  3. The economy improved during the early part of the 1920s, & Canada experienced one of the greatest economic booms in its history. Why? • American investment • New products (vacuum cleaners, stove and refrigerators) became available • Cars and radios = huge impact on the social & economic life of Canadians.

  4. B. Social Movements • Aboriginals started to organize • Growing Canadian nationalism • Labour movement • Women’s fashions & attitudes towards them changed • Technology and new inventions • very optimistic time in history!

  5. Issues facing • Aboriginals? • Still a minority, no rights • English Canadians? • Keep links with Britain? • French Canadians? • Disappointed during the war • Immigrants? • Faced much discrimination
