  1. My Magazine Preparation

  2. Genre/Sub-Genre • I have decided to mix Indie and Folk in my magazine, because these are my favourite types of music and i’ve decided to mix add both to my magazine, Indie being the main genre and Folk being the smaller genre in the magazine. • I think this a good mixture of genres, they are quite different but both quite popular styles of music. There will hopefully be about 40% of the magazine taken up by Folk and the rest of the 60% to be made up of a more Indie style.

  3. Audience • I am going to try and aim my magazine at 16-30 year olds, i think the younger readers will be attracted by the Indie side while some older readers as well as some young readers may be attracted by the Folk side of the magazine. I will create a questionnaire to see what sort of content this type of audience would like to see in the magazine so I know what to add to my magazine. I will also add a page showing where to get free music because a lot of the readers will be students or at school and wont be able to afford to buy their music.

  4. Name Of Magazine • My magazine is going to be called iMusic, I think this sounds good and is quite catchy. It is easy to say and easy to remember because it is quite simple.

  5. Tagline • ‘Driving music forward’. • The tagline i have chosen for my magazine is ‘Loud music never hurt anybody’. I think that it’s quite catchy and can stick in someones mind easily.

  6. Editorial Mission Statement • My magazine aims to inform readers about new upcoming bands and allow them the opportunity to be engaged with new bands by promoting a website to stream music on. There will also be lots of information for readers to find out about upcoming gigs and festivals and subscribers will be able to get discounts on festivals like Glastonbury and Reading etc.

  7. USP • The USP of my magazine is that it also covers the world of Folk music as well as Indie which should help to attract an extra amount of readers because it covers two genres.

  8. Reader Profile • My average reader would be aged between 16-30. They will be either in education, students or in full time employment. This type of music can be aimed at male and female, so its open to everyone between the ages of 16-30. My average reader comes home after work/school, sits down and has pizza for dinner with their family. After dinner they sit in their favourite armchair and listen to their favourite bands like, The Kooks, Foals and also enjoys listening to bands like Noah and the Whale, Mumford & Sons and Stornoway etc. They also enjoy, socialising with friends and playing sport for their local teams.

  9. Ideas for front cover Im going to have the name/label of the picture underneath/ going through the main picture on the front cover, like Lady GaGa on Q magazine. I will also try to have most of the main information ‘above the fold’. so people can see the main points in the shop. I’d like to put the picture of the main article large on the right and then on the left underneath the title have a picture with a smaller picture of a different article. I’d quite like someone stood with their back against a wall for my front cover with the picture of the top half of their body. I’d like to have the title/name of the magazine in the top left hand corner of the front cover like on Q in bright colours because it makes the title eye- catching.
