  2. Warm Up • How are colors matched when designing? Provide 2 examples of colors that look good together. • PO: Analyze the use of color schemes in design and the effect they have on the success of the design.

  3. Analogous • Uses colors that are directly next to each other on the color wheel

  4. Complimentary • Uses two colors that are directly opposite on the color wheel.

  5. Split Complementary • Uses three colors • Combines one color with the two colors on each side of its complement

  6. Double complementary • Uses four colors for a total of two sets of complementary colors

  7. Triad • Uses any three colors that are an equal distance apart from each other on the color wheel

  8. Monochromatic • Uses tints, tones and shades of one color on the color wheel

  9. Neutral • Use of whites, blacks and grays • Beige and brown pairings • Allow people to feel safer when working with color

  10. Accented Neutral • Small amount of a bright color in a neutral color scheme

  11. Warm Colors • Makes a space/item feel warmer • Often associated with the sun • Reds, oranges, and yellows

  12. Be aware: depending on the tint or tone of the base (undertone) it is possible to have warm greens and cool yellows Cool Colors • Often associate with the essence of the ocean • Makes an item feel cooler • Blues, greens and violets

  13. Accented Analogous • Uses colors that are next to each other on the color wheel PLUS a complementary color.

  14. Color Choices and their Effects • Colors affect the: • Lighting and personal skin tone • Perceived space of a room or a person • Comfort level • Colors reflect: • Personality • Style • Trends • Mood

  16. Assignment • Create all of the color schemes using colored pencils on the back of your sheet. Be sure to NAME each scheme • On each area of design, pick one color scheme and apply it to the design (fashion and interiors).
