Color Schemes. Monochromatic. Mono means one Chromatic means color It uses different values and intensities of just one color. Analogous. Analogous color schemes use colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. Complementary.

  2. Monochromatic • Mono means one Chromatic means color • It uses different values and intensities of just one color

  3. Analogous • Analogous color schemes use colors that are next to each other on the color wheel.

  4. Complementary • Colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel are considered to be complementary colors (example: yellow and violet).

  5. Split Complementary • A split complementary color scheme is a variation of the complementary color scheme, for this arrangement, select one color and the two colors that lie on either side of its complement. 

  6. Triadic • Three colors that are an equal distance on the color wheel. Orange, green and violet are examples of one triadic combination.

  7. Neutral A color scheme that includes only colors not found on the color wheel, called neutrals, such as beige, brown, gray, black and white.

  8. Accented Neutral • One color added to a neutral color scheme. • Example, a splash of gold in a predominate gray color scheme.

  9. Warm Colors • The color circle can be divided into warm and cool colors. • Red, yellow and orange are all warm colors.

  10. Cool Colors • Cool colors give an impression of calm, and create a soothing impression. • These colors are blues, greens, blue violet.
