  2. Pronouns • Pronouns are substitute words for nouns. • They help sentences not become redundant. • Ex. - Mike tried to get to class on time but he was late. • He is the pronoun. He takes the place of Mike.

  3. Antecedents • Antecedents are words whose meaning is referred to by pronouns. • Pronoun/antecedent agreement is important so the reader is not confused as to who or what the sentence is talking about. • Ex. - Mike dunked Donald in the pool and then he got out. • In this case Mikeis the antecedent. He refers to Mike.

  4. You tell me (pronoun) • Identify the pronoun in the following sentences. • Randy caught the pass but he was flagged for interference. • The players got suspended but they apologized for their actions. • Alex was offered help on his homework, but he wanted to do it himself.

  5. You tell me (antecedent) • Identify the antecedents in the following sentences. • Tom passed the ball to Randy, but he under threw it. • Allison tried to help Alex with his PowerPoint but she didn’t know what she was talking about. • Fred ate a hamburger, but he got sick.

  6. Today’s assignment Complete the worksheet on pronouns and turn it in. Pick up the worksheet on pronoun antecedent agreement and turn it in at the end of class.
