  1. You Wouldn’t Want To Be An American Pioneer!! Witten By: Jacqueline Morley Illustrated by David Antram Authors Chair By: Maria Pacheco

  2. Is the story accurate and authentic in its historical detail, including the setting and the known events of history? Is the language authentic to the times? This book has a range of topics ranging from --“Going West and Getting Rich” to the “Journeys end” and everything in between. • This book provides kids with the nitty gritty bits of information on the American Pioneers in the mid-1800s. • What pioneers went through in order to live makes for good reading and they become more interesting.

  3. Is the historical interpretation sound? Whose voices are missing? • This book allows students to take on roles as Pioneers traveling West. • “You will not be the first to go west over land. A few explorers and fur trappers have made the trip already. They say it is tough but possible….” • Each chapter goes on to give a brief insight to the particular topic.

  4. Does the book provide insight and understanding into current issues as well as those in the past? Does The Book Tell A Good Story? This book is the right balance between education and entertainment. • This book is a great way to have students learn about the past because they get insight on the impact and hardships of moving. • This is also a great book to introduce+ to students because we deal with the pressures of changing times and adjusting to make a living.
