Stage 35. Supines. Nouns formed from verbs. Two kinds. Both formed from the fourth principal part of a verb. Fero , ferre, tuli , latus. ACCUSATIVE. Formation Fero , ferre, tuli , latus Take “Latus” Make it end in “um” Latum. Used with verbs of motion to express purpose.

  3. ACCUSATIVE Formation Fero, ferre, tuli, latus Take “Latus” Make it end in “um” Latum

  4. Used with verbs of motion to express purpose Caesar it urbem captum. Caesar goes to capture the city.

  5. Practice with accusative supines IveruntRomam Caesarem visum. They went to Rome to see Caesar. Caecilius contendit ad basilicamorationesauditum. Caecilius hurries to the court house to hear the speeches.

  6. Ablative supines Formation: Fourth principal part ending in “u” Fero, ferre, tuli, latus-- “Latu”

  7. Ablative Supines Used with adjectives as an ablative of respect: Hic liber est facile lectu. This book is easy (with respect to reading) to read.

  8. Practice with ablative supines Hic est mirabiledictu. This is amazing to say. Haec cena facile factu erat. This dinner was easy to make. Dolor erat difficilelatu. The sorrow was difficult to bear.

  9. Turn to page V (5) in your book Read what it says about supines and translate the VI (6) further example sentences checking whether the supine is accusative or ablative.

  10. Create your own sentences Write 4 sentences in Latin using abl. Supines: Eritdifficile Eritmirabile Fuit facile Fuit horribile Go to the back of the book and find 4 new verbs to make supines. Then we will share.
