  6. Getting to Ann Arbor • Clearing Customs and Immigration • What is your purpose of visit? • Where are you staying? • How long are you going to be in the States? • Transportation to Ann Arbor • http://www.umich.edu/~mctp/visitor/travel.html • Cost of cab to Ann Arbor ~ 50 USD

Moving into Ann Arbor • For those staying in school dormitory • You should be able to move in the day before International Orientation starts. • Reach your dormitory early • Go straight to the front desk • Have your check-in package and passport ready • Check and fill out your room inventory sheet • Further instructions will be given on the spot

  8. Making your M-card • M-card = Michigan card = Multi-purpose card • ID card. Library card. Building Access card. Meal Plans & Entrée-Plus card. Debit/ATM card

  9. 2 places you can go to and have your M-card made • Central Campus and North Campus • Bring your passport • Photo on M-card is taken on the spot • You will get your card on the spot.

Meal Plans and Entrée Plus • Which meal plan to choose? • 6 plans to choose from • Meal plan change can be made online • Latest date: 30th September • What is Entrée Plus? • Debit card service that was designed to supplement your Entrée meal plan • Can be used for vending machines, washing machines, etc

  11. Photocopying your documents • Some of your immigration documents are sealed and not to be opened till you reach the customs • Photocopies of these documents are needed for various purposes • Photocopy services are available at: • Your dormitory • Libraries • Other locations, eg. Michigan Union

  12. Attend Orientation! • Even if you are JET-LAGGED • Important registration and paperwork to be done • Mandatory Check-in (required by Immigration Laws) • Health Insurance (Mandatory for International Students) • Talks and ground orientation will be conducted

Setting up bank account • There are quite a number of banks to choose from • TCF • Comerica • Credit Union • Others • Decide when you get there. • Different banks offer slightly different plans which are subjected to changes. • Find out for yourself when you reach there. • Bring 3 forms of ID and have your permanent address (Singapore) and current address (US) on hand
