  2. Objective • Students should be able to argue that the USS Constitution deserves its fame and reputation after my presentation.

General Knowledge • Launched in 1797, the U.S.S Constitution was the first ship commissioned by the United States Navy. • Builder was Edmund Hartt Shipyard, the same shipyard who built USS Boston, USS Argus, and USS Independence. • The USS Constitution cost the U.S Navy $302,718 (1797 dollars) • It’s well known as the “Old Ironsides” • The USS Constitution served in the Quasi war, First Barbary War, and the War of 1812. • 450 officers and enlisted, including 55 Marines and 30 boys • Homeport: Charlestown Navy Yard

  5. Characteristics of USS Constitution • Length of the boat: 204 ft (62 m) at waterline its 175 feet (53 m). • Speed: 13 knots (24 km/h; 15 mph) • Beam: 43 ft 6 in (13.26 m) • Propulsion: three masts, or also know ship rig.

  6. Quasi War • Quasi War was the war between French Republic and the U.S. • The USS Constitution was the main service of the war under Lieutenant Isaac Hull, who captured the French privateer Sandwich in the harbor and spiked the guns in the Spanish fort.

First Barbary War • TheFirst Barbary War (1801–1805), also known as the Barbary Coast War or the Tripolitan War, was the first of two wars fought between the United States of America and the North African Muslim states known collectively as the Barbary States. • The USS Constitution did not play a major role in the war, the USS Constitution just went to a few sea battles.

  8. The war of 1812 • The War of 1812 was a military conflict fought between the forces of the United States of America and those of the British Empire. The Americans declared war in 1812 for a number of reasons, including a desire for expansion into the Northwest Territory, trade restrictions because of Britain's ongoing war with France. • One of the most famous battles that the USS Constitution fought with the HMS Guerriere and was very victorious. This was important ,because it heart the British Navy.

  9. Does USS Constitution really deserve its fame and reputation? • For All those famous battle that USS Constitution fought I think the USS Constitution deserve its fame and reputation.

  10. Theme • I think my project fits the theme of Challenge because United states has the challenge of building a strong navy or even organize a navy.
