  2. Light-Sensitive Receptors • Four kinds of light-sensitive receptors are found in the retina: • The rods which are sensitive only to black. • White and shades of grey • The cones of which there are three types • Each of which responds to a different range of color.

  3. Receptor Cells • The retina contains two types of receptor cells. • Cones, adapted for vision in bright light, allow us to perceive color. • Rods, adapted for vision in dim light • The brain combines and interprets nerve impulses received from these cells; enable us to see in various light conditions.
