  1. Characters &Location

  2. List of characters • Nightmare at Ivy Court: • Unnamed female protagonist-typical female victim role in hack & slash horror films • Unnamed male psychopath-generic mysterious figure, nothing spoken, always in frame one shot and then disappears before the camera turns back.

  3. List of characters • Into the Darkness: • Mark Hunt-lead antagonist, takes charge of the miners very quickly • Johnny-lead protagonist, but is set up to potentially be an antagonist • April Moore-female news report, helps stop the drama having male-only characters, helps the audience keep track of the story.

  4. Character basis • Nightmare at Ivy Court: • The female in the piece was designed to be a more feeble version of Laurie Strode from the “Halloween” films. • The protagonist was a mix of Jason from the “Friday the 13th” films and “the shape” from the original Halloween films, in the fact that he would never really be in shot for long, and was always carrying a weapon.

  5. Character basis • Into the Darkness: • Mark Hunt is loosely based on Jack Torrence from the film “The Shining” in the fact that he seems like a perfectly same husband and dad, until he looses his mind and goes on a murderous rampage. Good news is, unlike Jack, Mark doesn’t try to kill his family. Although he does succeed in killing some of his fellow miners. According to Prop’s analysis of characters, Mark would be the “false hero.”

  6. Character basis • Into the Darkness • Johnny is based very loosely upon Bernie LaPlante from the film “Hero”, in the fact that, although he may be the protagonist, he is just an accidental hero. • April Moore is roughly based around April O’Neil from the hit series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and as such she shares the name and job of her animated counterpart.

  7. Radio Drama Location • Our radio drama is set in the Markham Colliery in Bolsover. We chose this location because there is a collapsed and abandoned mine site there, and it is local for us, which meant we didn’t have to worry about finding actors with accents or who could add an accent to their voice. This really made the recording process much easier for us, as we could just tell our actors what to say and in what tone, rather than having to try and teach them to speak in the accent we would’ve needed for their character.
