  1. Plant products The Most Important Plant Products on Earth For Humans

  2. What Are Some Ways We Use Plants Today? In our world today we are using plants for more and more things. We are using them to replace things like oil, since it is a nonrenewable resource. We are also using it as a common ingredient in things from building materials to acne washes.

  3. Important Uses Of Plants We Use Plants In… • Vegetable Oil • Acne Washes • Dandruff Scrubs • Inflammation Creams • Building Materials • Gas/ Fuel For Cars

  4. Plants In Vegetable Oil • Vegetable oil is a fat that is taken from the fruit or seeds of some plants- An example of a plant used is corn • There are several ways to take out the fat -Cold Pressing and using a Machine are just two examples • Cold Pressing uses less oil and more of the fat from seeds, but it takes a longer time than most machines- this is why most large vegetable oil producing companies use a machine rather than the cold pressing method • While the seeds are being turned into oil they leave what is called a seed cake which can be sold by companies as animal food- if the cakes are too hot it often means that the seeds are being kept at too high a temperature • The seeds and fruits used for Canola Oil are not as heat sensitive as the seeds used for Vegetable Oil

  5. Plants In Acne Washes • A plant called Artemisia can be used to treat acne- this plant is commonly found in acne washes • Most companies use the whole part of a plant in their product, but some only used the dried out leaves • Putting plants in acne washes relates to the use of mud masks to clear the skin, because your flesh likes natural things, not so much artificial scents, chemicals, and acids

  6. Plants In Dandruff Scrubs • Dandruff is when humans scalps become dry and little pieces of skin fall off • Plants like Sage will help reduce the scaling that occurs when a person has dandruff • Plants like rosemary help eliminate flaking

  7. Plants In Inflammation Creams • Inflammation can be a common feature of many skin conditions • Chamomile, a type of plant, can be used in certain creams to go deep in the skin and stop the inflammation at the source • The Chamomile can be used as extracts, infusions, or essential oils- the oils are what sink deep into the skin

  8. Plants In Building Materials • In the 2004 Statewide Waste Characterization Study Construction Materials were shown to be responsible for around 22% of the waste stream in the U.S • Lumber, drywall, bricks, carpet, plastic, and pipes are things that are constantly ending up in landfills • Putting more biodegradable things in the building materials like, plants, rocks, and dirt will make the building materials people forget to recycle more “earth-friendly” when they reach the landfill • Today more and more construction companies are switching to materials with plants, dirt, and other natural things in them

  9. Why We Need Plants For Oil • We need plants for oil because right now our gasoline prices are rising and plants would make them cheaper • There is only a limited amount of oil on earth so we need to create a new source for fuel

  10. A Way To Change Plants Into Fuel • Cellulose are sugar molecules that are found in plants • To make fuel out of the plants scientists have to get the glucose out of the cellulose- this can sometimes be a real struggle • If scientists can then convert the glucose into sugar it can be fed to yeast • When the yeast is fed sugar it will turn to ethanol • After the ethanol is created it can then be converted to gasoline • Another word for gasoline or oil made from plants is a Biofuel
