  2. Izalco Restaurant • As a group we decided to visit Izalco, a Salvadorian restaurant located in North Hollywood. • Although we went separately, our visits were quite similar in all aspects.

  3. Observations • The most common observation amongst our group was the fact that all the employees appeared to be of Central American descent. • The other being that this restaurant serves authentic Salvadorian food, and they are proud of it.

  4. Comida/Food • The popular Salvadorian dish amongst our group was the same as many others, a fresh plate of Pupusas. • This seemed to be a common theme amongst the other groups as well, which lead to another observation that business establishments like this thrive off the sale of Pupusas.

  5. Service/Servicio • The service here seemed very biased towards Salvadorians, as it was easier for employees to relate to Salvadorian customers. • In my experience, the service was very efficient, friendly, and caring. • On the contrary, my groupmate Kasey whom is of Caucasian descent, felt he was treated differently because he wasn’t hispanic. • The service for him was not that friendly and they grew frustrated because he didn’t understand spanish.

  6. Nationalism • There was definitely a strong sense of nationalism and home in this restaurant, as the ownership made it evident that they were Salvadorian and proud. • Salvadorian flags were on the wall, and Salvadorian soccer jerseys as well.

  7. Nationalism cont’d • Besides the fact that the walls were showered in Salvadorian flags, there were also Salvadorian soccer jerseys at the wall. • Not only the flags and jerseys, but displays of Salvadorian beers that are imported.

  8. Merchandise • The Restaurant had several Salvadorian items that any Salvadorian would quickly recognize, such as, Empanadas, Pan dulce, calling cards, and chorizo.

  9. Overall Experience • The food was indeed very authentic, and the restaurant proved itself to be authentic as well. • Excellent service for the most part, it had it lackluster moments as well. • Definite recommend for friends and family looking for a true “Salvadorian Experience”. • The final bill count was fairly cheap, which made it an even better experience. • Food left us STUFFED.

  10. Final Analysis • After careful deliberation and discussion, our group decided that if you do not speak spanish, don’t expect good service here from most of the workers, and the least bit of friendliness. Whereas, if you are of Central American descent then they help you faster and make more conversation with you cause there isn’t a language barrier. • And before we forget, the food was DELICIOUS!!!
