  1. Space exploration Project BY Marcus Apelo-Cruz Bryan Souder Carlo Chiavacci

  2. Big bang theory: the theory that purposes that the universe formed approximately 13.7 billion years ago when an unimaginable tiny volume of space suddenly an rapidly expanded to immense size

  3. The red shift: a shifting of light that formed objects toward the red (longer wave length) end of the spectrum as the object moves away from the earth

  4. Hubble noticed that light of the galaxies showed spectral lines that were distinctly moved towards the red shift

  5. Hubble discovered that galaxies farther away from our own milky way galaxies were moving away from each other faster then galaxies that are closer to ours • In 1925 while looking at what he thought was a bright nebula (a cloud of gas and dust) he realized that he was looking into a whole bunch of individual stars. • According to the model the universe expanded from an extremely dense and hot state and continues to expand today. • Hubble had his own expantion law for the big bang theory

  6. The speed of recession is proportional to distance • Expressed in an equation (distance/time per mega parsec) • Hubbles data (1929) red shift

  7. Edwin Hubble first proposed this law based on a study of the light received from the distant galaxies. He observed stars in the galaxies do not have exactly the same wavelengths observed in the laboratory • Red shifts could occur because other galaxies are moving away from out own galaxy, the milky way

  8. Solar system formed about 4.6 billion year ago, when gravity pulled together low-density cloud of interstellar gas and dust called the nebula

  9. Big Bang Theory Song • http:/www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhTSfOZUNLo
