How to improve water services delivery? • Assessment of both surface & groundwater resources potential of any given geographical area (water budgeting) • Temporal & spatial assessment of water for irrigation • Assessment of land use & cropping pattern • Awareness generation of public on water resources situation and seeking their opinion for its judicious use • Capacity building of farming community thru field level demonstration in farmers’ fields • Participatory impact assessment of improved irrigation system based on field trails • Adaptation of specific crops to specific geographical area based on water availability, suitability of crops and market demand • Promotion of less water intensive rural livelihood options in water scarcity areas like animal husbandry/ livestock rearing • Promotion of value addition activities at the village level to increase the farmers’ income

  10. How to improve water services delivery? Optimal utilization of both surface and ground water adopting: • Efficient irrigation systems (drip, sprinkler, SRI methods, etc.) • Improving organic carbon content in soil (production and recycling of biomass into the soil) • Increasing tree cover to reduce evaporation and production of more biomass • Artificial recharging of groundwater • Improved sanitation facilities to provide safe drinking water • Grey water recycling • Effluent treatment systems • Maintaining the surface water bodies – pollution free

  11. How to improve water services delivery? Optimal utilization of both surface and ground water adopting: • Improving the efficiency in the water distribution network for both drinking and irrigation purposes – reduction in leakages, piped connection to individual houses etc • Addressing the issue of equity in distribution through installation of meters and collection of tariffs • Addressing the capacity gap at the GP through creation & strengthening of institutions – such as VWSC and Watermen • Improving the efficiency in execution of targets of key line departments • Timely release of funds to VWSC for implementation of roles and responsibilities assigned to them
