  2. FIELD TRIP A group excursion for the purpose of firsthand observation, as to a museum historic place, Industries, Hospitals, Wild life etc .

  3. OBJECTIVES

  4. PLANNING

  5. PLANNINGIN ADVANCE • Conduct a pre-visit to familiarize with the major features of the field trip. • Taking digital photographs to share with students prior to the visit. • Record addresses, directions, contact persons, phone numbers, email addresses, etc.

  6. ADMINISTRATION PERMISSION • Contact the educational coordinator for the site and arrange the date and time. • Send a letter to parents of the students informing them about the field trip. • Permission from the institution should be taken previously.

  7. SHEET OF ACTIVITIES • Develop schedule for the day. • Plan activities that allow students to work alone, in pairs or small groups Activities might include: • Mystery with clues provided • Adventure game • Field notebooks for recording answers to prepared questions based on clues

PREPARingTHE STUDENTS • Discuss the purpose of the field trip and how it relates to the current unit of study. • Introduce visual observation skills. • Introduce vocabulary words that will be used by docents during the tour. • Show photographs or posters of the field trip site or related to exhibits that will be viewed.

  10. Execution • Get full information about route and place of stay • Maintain democratic atmosphere • Engage students in the purposeful activities • Encourage to record observations, perform experiments, collect material, specimens • Carry out organisational duties • Objectives are achieved

FOLLOW UP • Make sure that all the materials and the belongings are safe • Preserve collected materials in the form of dried specimen, or in liquid preservation and organisms can be cultured • Excursion photographs display on the bulletin board • While teaching use examples from the field • Maintain record simultaneously or at the end • Maintain daily diary from planning to the end

  12. EVALUATION • By asking Questions • By giving individual project • Quantity and Quality of materials collected • By using observational tool like Checklist • Contributing collection to the science museum • Interest in maintaining cultural organism in the botanical garden

ROLE OF THE SCIENCE TEACHER The Science teacher plays a very important role at every stage of the excursion • Excursion is as per the curriculum and has a meaningful purpose • Arrange necessary finances • Guide students towards decision taking • Act as a manager at execution stage • Checks indiscipline , Encourages, Involve all the students • Supervises the preservation and cultivation of collected material • Evaluate to see the achievement of educational objectives
