  1. Music Magazine - The Evaluation Joao Vasconcelos

  2. Forms and Conventions • The style of the magazine is very similar to the style of Rolling Stone which was my case study when analyzing the front cover and double page spread. • I kept the column style of journalism in the double page spread • Also, I used a more informal style of journalism as I felt that that would be the style of writing that would appeal to my target audience

  3. Representational Issues • My magazine is more appealing to people who like music with big choruses and guitars and drums and I kept that theme with the logo. The logo is very large and bold and that represents what the magazine is about. • The name – “Synth” – comes from the word Synthesizers and keeps in tone with the pop/rock genre.

  4. Institutions • I would like to think that the majority of the UKs retailers would sell the magazine as the pop/rock genre is very popular especially now in 2009. However, due to the lack of CD sales and magazine sales perhaps this wouldn’t be fully possible.

  5. Target Audience • The target audience of the magazine is very specific. It mainly targets bands/artists who create music of pop/rock but in the contents page I have included artists who aren’t necessarily pop/rock but they have generated so much buzz that it would be good for the magazine to have them included but of course those bands must still have a pop/rock influence.

  6. Addressing the Readership • The biggest and the most noticeable way that I have tried to attract readership is by including a big image of the main artist (Kelly Clarkson) and also having her name with the biggest font size.

  7. Technical/Construction Issues • Taking the images of a star as Kelly Clarkson proved to be a challenge. Whilst waiting for her to come out to be available to take pictures, I had to line myself up to get a good quality picture of her. It did come out partly successful but also had a few problems. • Working with Publisher also proved to be a challenge as I am not used to the software. The front cover and the contents page were done on Adobe Photoshop which made it easier to blend images and make it more professional. The double page spread was done on Publisher as it makes it easier to edit with huge amounts of text.

  8. Comparisons between prelim and main tasks • The school magazine helped me learn from my mistakes. The school magazine looked less professional so it helped me think about what needed to be done for the main task to make it look like it was available in the shops.
