  1. Warm-Up: Word Splash • Working with those in your group and at your table, create a Word Splash about your immigrant group on the butcher paper. Use your information from yesterday’s research. • Things You Might Want to Add: • Words • Phrases • Facts • Emotions

  2. What is a PSA? • Public Service Announcement • Ad or message broadcast in the media • Raises awareness about an issue • Tries to change opinions or behavior • Uses photos, text, and music to persuade

  3. PSA Activity • Complete the graphic organizer for each PSA we watch. • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPmniJTz1ks • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOAHpRe-xVg • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiFOWjM6Nn4

  4. What do you notice…? • Photos • Music • Text • Persuasive Appeals • Effect on the Viewer

  5. PSA Project • With your group, you’ll be creating a PSA about the challenges that your immigrant group has faced. • Let’s review the requirements and the rubric. • Everybody in your group needs ONE white handout.

  6. Group Roles: Yellow Handout – One per Group • Leader • Recorder • Technology Specialist • Timekeeper • For groups of 3, I would recommend that the leader and the timekeeper are one person. • Discuss and assign roles.

  7. Planning & Collaboration: Pink Handout – One per Group • Work together to complete this step. • Remember: all members must be actively involved in the discussion and decision making. The recorder should be the person taking notes on the sheet. • Your Goal: By the end of class, have a “rough draft,” also called “storyboard,” of the order of your photos, the text and where it is going to go, the timing, the music, etc.

  8. Summarizer • Answer the following: • Which job did you pick? • On a scale of 1-5 (1 is the worst, 5 is the best), how well did you do your job today? • What do you know you want to include in your PSA? • What questions do you have about your PSA?
