Personality Disorders • Axis 2 of the DSM • experiences and behaviors that differ from societal norms and expectations • difficulties in cognition, expressing emotion and control of impulses.
Odd or Eccentric Disorders (Type 1) • Three types of personality disorders, paranoid, schizoid, and schizotypal • Paranoid – irrational suspicions and mistrust of others
Dramatic, Emotional or Erratic (Type 2) • Four types: Antisocial (sociopath or psychopath), borderline, histrionic and narcissistic • Narcissistic – Overly confident of their abilities; believe they are special.
Anxious or Fearful (Type 3) • Main disorder of focus – Compulsive personality disorder • Excessively neat and organized • Has a set of rules that are rigidly followed • Trouble with showing affection
