Film • Iranian art films not officially screened. • Pirate DVD’s are easily available • Large amount of Iranian war films due to countries past conflicts • Tehran film festival is a renowned A class event • Iranian film, A Separation, won Best Foreign Film and was nominated for Best Original Screenplay • Films have censorship rules, some Iranian films that have achieved international acclaim are banned in Iran

Communications • Iran’s telecommunications industry is almost completely state owned. • Iran had more than one mobile phone per inhabitant by 2012. • The number of fixed telephone lines is above 24 million • There are over 43 million internet users in Iran, the most in the middle east. • Iran has special courts to monitor print media that may suspend the licences of papers if found guilty of anti-religious material, slander or information detrimental to national interest • There are 22 million radios.

  4. Television • The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting are a giant corporation in charge of radio and TV. • There are 15 million television sets in Iran. • Although formally illegal, over 30% use satellite channels.

  5. News • Up to 80% of Iranians get their news from government owned media. • Foreign broadcasts in the country exists, however they are often jammed due to not abiding by the countries censorship programs and regulations.
