  3. Simple Grammar • Too: also, in addition • I want to go to the movies too. • I ate a sandwich for lunch. I ate an apple too! • Two: the number • I have two pairs of shoes. • To: everything else, • I want to go to Burger King. • I want to dance • Your = Possession • Your car is nice. • Your teacher is hilarious. • You’re = You are • You’re funny. • You’re going to be late. • A Lot = Two Words • I like ice cream a lot.

  4. Simple Grammar • There = Everything else • There is a mouse in the kitchen! • There are three days until school starts. • Their = Ownership/possession • Their car was stolen! • Their house is beautiful • They’re = They are • They’re going to school. • They’re really great cooks.

Brainstorm • 1: I believe drinking age should be lowered. • 2: Opportunity to teacher responsibility for alcohol • 3: On par with other legal rights and demands • 4:Increase in drunk driving, but we can teach responsibility • 5: Lower drinking age and write a letter • Create a brainstorm that helps you with the paper, not with your opinion • You are not graded on your opinion, you are only graded on how you write about it

They are wrong because _____________________________________________________________________ • 5: Conclusion • Restate thesis and main points • Give the reader something to do now that they believe you. • 1: Intro • Hook • EXPLAIN WHY YOUR TOPIC IS IMPORTANT • End with thesis (I believe) • 2: #1 Reason you are right • Make your reason your topic sentence • PROVE IT TRUE WITH EVIDENCE • 3: #2 Reason you are right

Educators debate extending high school to five years because of increasing demands on students from employers and colleges to participate in extracurricular activities and community service in addition to having high grades. Some educators support extending high school to five years because they think students need more time to achieve all that is expected of them. Other educators do not support extending high school to five years; they think that students would lose interest in school and that attendance would drop in the fifth year. In your opinion, should high school be extended to five years?
