Why is this helpful
Why is this helpful?

  • Reduces the amount of RADIOACTIVE material needed for lab experiments!

What is fret
What is FRET?

  • Florescence Resonance Energy Transfer

  • English please?

    • FRET is a way to understand how close two molecules are together

    • This process includes one molecule that ABSORBS florescence and one molecule that RELEASES florescence

    • The basis of this experiment is when the two molecules moves closer together the light is decreased and when the two molecules move away from each other the amount of light is increased

LIGHT!

Molecule 1

Molecule 2

Molecule 1

Molecule 2

NO LIGHT

96 separate reactions
96 Separate Reactions!

  • You can have 96 separate reactions occurring at one time on one plate (3inches x 5inches)

Why not a gel
Why not a gel?

  • Gel option – far fewer reactions and it takes a lot more time

  • Quantification is some what subjective
