  3. Correct the sentences • The capital city of the Roman Empire was Madrid. • The Romans invaded Britain so they could collect raw materials like copper and zinc. • The centurion was the leader of the legion and he led 6000 men.

  4. Why did men join the army? Serve for 25 years and then get a cash payment and some land. Become rich through warfare. Clothing and equipment free! Travel the Empire! Protect the Empire and the people of Rome. Impress women! Learn new skills like building roads, baths, bridges and forts. Be 1.6m tall and follow orders! Be physically fit! In the boxes above are nine reasons why men should join the army. Which are the main reasons why they should join? Complete a diamond nine in your book.
