  2. Greek Philosophers • Philosophers means “lover of wisdom” • Based their philosophy on the following: • The universe is orderly • People can understand the laws through logic and reason

  3. Socrates • Encouraged students to examine their mostly closely held beliefs • Used a question and answer method • Greatest pupil of Socrates was Plato • His most famous work was The Republic • Plato wanted a society governed by the wisest, not the richest

  4. Aristotle • Was a student of Plato • One of his works was titled Politics • He thought that people were political by nature and that they had to live in a state

  5. The Legacy of Greece • Had natural laws to predict how the world would work • Developed direct democracy • Created 3 branches of government

  6. Assignment • Do questions on page 9, numbers 1,2, and 4 • In addition to writing out the definitions on question one, use the word in a sentence as well.
