  2. Alternative medicines and therapies have survived the test of time. There is a difference in the approach of modern medicine practitioners and alternative medicine practitioners towards a disease. Modern medicine aims at treating the symptoms to treat a disease. Alternative therapies believe in the body’s overall well-being and eliminating the root cause of the disease. In some countries, alternative therapies are a part of the healthcare system. People believe in alternative therapies as they are natural and have no side effects when taken under the guidance of a practitioner. The patients must inform their doctors before beginning a new therapy. Colleges have started offering professional courses on alternative medicines. Caisey Harlingten - Ways in which alternative treatment therapies are changing.

  3. Various types of alternative therapies: 1. Aromatherapy-Aromatherapy makes use of oils extracted from plants. Different oils cure different conditions. Example: Lavender oil is known to improve sleep. Aromatherapy improves both physical and mental health. It works on the sense of smell and touch. Products like diffusers, candles, bathing salts, etc., use aromatherapy. There are more than a hundred essential oils in aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is used for managing pains, soothing the side effects of chemotherapy, etc.

  4. 2. Cannabis-based medicines-Cannabis is a plant known to have hypnotically properties. Some countries have legalized the use of cannabis in medicines. Medicinal cannabis can be prescribed only by a healthcare professional and treats some epilepsies, depression, anxiety, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The doctors must prescribe medical cannabis only when all the other options have not worked. It must be the last resort.3. Hypnotherapy- The patient is put in a state of deep relaxation by a hypnotherapist. The hypnotherapist must use only methods that have been approved by the patient earlier.

  5. The practitioner makes suggestions and supports self-awareness to change unwanted thinking and practices. Hypnotherapy helps patients diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder, stress, anger issues, addictions, etc.4. Light Therapy-Light therapy makes use of a light therapy box that gives out a light mimicking natural light. Light therapy treats seasonal depression. Some people experience depression during winter. The patient sits and works near the lightbox during light therapy. The experience of sitting in the open under the sunlight makes the patient feel better.

  6. Other conditions treated by light therapy are jet lag, other depressions, sleeping disorders, etc. 5. Massage Therapy-The therapist works on the soft tissues of the patient. It provides relief from pain and discomfort. Massage therapy also maintains the general well-being of the body. People also use massage therapy for self-care and relaxation. Some mental disorders lead to the bunching up of muscles. The therapist works on relaxing the muscles and managing mental health.

  7. Alternative therapies have helped people since time immemorial. It is non-invasive and safe. They are natural and thus have almost no side effects. Patients with chronic diseases like cancer use alternative therapies to manage the side effects of the medicines.
