Guided Notes • In a sentence using active voice, the subject of the sentence performs the action expressed in the verb. • In a sentence using passive voice, the subject is acted upon; he or she receives the action expressed by the verb.
Reasons to Use Active Voice • Active voice is used in most non-scientific writing. • Using active voice makes your meaning clear and keeps your sentences from becoming unnecessarily complicated or wordy. • Using passive voice sometimes buries or masks the meaning of your sentences.
