  1. How Is A Story Told? Story Exploration Project

  2. As class begins • Get out your journal. • Date it. (August 21, 2014) • Title it “Senior Reflection.” • In a paragraph, write what you have learned thus far at SkyView Academy. What lessons did you learn (maybe even the hard way)? What wisdom do you have to share as a Senior at SVA?

  3. You are a role model. • Grab a sheet of white paper. • In an aesthetically-pleasing way, write your advice for SkyView Academy freshmen. • This advice will be shared with SVA freshmen and displayed in this classroom. Please make it meaningful and genuine.

  4. Story project • In your groups, take turns to read your children’s book. • Discuss what is different in the story now as a young adult compared to how you remember it as a child. • What is similar? What is different? What are the morals of the story? What is the purpose?

  5. Interpretative summary • Based on your reading of your story, write a summary of your interpretation of the story in your own words. • What is important for you to include? What is nonessential to the story? • What symbols or themes are important to include in your version of the story?

  6. homework • If you did not finish in class, complete your story summary for your favorite children’s book. • If you did not finish in class, complete your SVA freshmen advice poster.

  9. conferences • Each group member will read their interpretive summary. • While the group member is reading, the audience will provide feedback. • FOR EACH GROUP MEMBER, YOU WILL USE THREE STICKY NOTES AND WRITE THE FOLLOWING: • An Affirmation: What is something he or she did well? • A Question: Ask a question to further the depth of his or her analysis. • A Challenge: What is something they could do better?
