MISSION STATEMENT THE UNESCO WINDHOEK CLUSTER OFFICE AIMS TO BE A PRIMARY CHANNEL FOR IMPROVING EFFECTIVE COLLABORATION AND PARTNERSHIPS IN EDUCATION, THE SCIENCES, COMMUNICATION AND CULTURE, ESPECIALLY WITHIN ITS CLUSTER MEMBER STATES IT SEEKS TO ACHIEVE THIS WITH A DYNAMIC, SERVICE-ORIENTED AND PROFESSIONALLY COMMITTED LEADERSHIP AND STAFF, ABLE CONSISTENTLY TO ATTRACT RESOURCES AND GOODWILL FOR CARRYING OUT UNESCO’s MANDATE.

In the Documentation Centre there are documents and publications from all Sectors of UNESCO, as well as documents and materials from the United Nations and other Specialized Agencies. • The Documentalist is responsible for the general administration and operations of the Documentation & Internet Access Centre and Reference Library of the Windhoek Cluster Office.

  4. PURPOSE • To provide information on UNESCO’s mission and UNESCO’s national, regional and global activities. • To serve the cross-disciplinary needs of students and researchers from the five cluster member states in education, science, culture, communication and information technology. • To provide access to information, (ideas and experiences) through books and other media including visual and spoken word recordings as well as the Internet.

RESOURCES • The centre is computerized using CDS/ISIS and InMagic database • Shelved are more than 2,500 items which include books, periodicals, monographs and reports, (there are items that are in the boxes, have not yet been classified) • Free internet access for research purposes , mainly for students, private and public sector officials • Four workstations for internet surfing (45 minutes per person)

  6. UNESCO Windhoek Cluster • We encourage the cluster countries to provide us with publications, materials and any artifacts from their countries so that our Office reflects the whole cluster. • Publications are also shared with all the cluster countries.

  7. REFERENCE SERVICES Documentalist: • responds to telephone, email and postal reference enquiries from national, regional and international organizations as well as individuals on general information about UNESCO’s activities. Specialized information is handled by the respective Programme Officers. • refers users to other centres in information required is not available in our Centre. • informs users regularly of our new acquisitions by email or telephone

  8. BOOK LOANS • Members may borrow 5 books at a time for a reserve period of 2 weeks with a week’s extension allowed on unreserved materials • Any member of staff within the UN may borrow books. • Other publications from the Reference and CD-ROM’s may not be borrowed. • No fees are paid for book loans. We encourage people to use our Centre as much as possible.

  9. LACK OF RESOURCES • Only four work stations. There is a demand for more computers and space. • Out of date equipment and limited facilities • No specific budget allocated for the documentation centre

  10. OPENING HOURS • Monday-Thursday: 08H00-13H00 14H00-17H00 Friday: 08H00-14H15 Saturday & Sunday Closed
