  1. The digestive system By: Maria Antonia Posada

  2. What is the digestive system The digestive system has the job of moving and breaking down food.  The material is moved by muscles they move food the same way as you brush your teeth .  The digestive system processes food in two ways: physically and chemically. The digestive system has many organs where food travels through them with are the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. Other organs release chemicals that are necessary for chemical digestion. Digestion is the process of breaking down food into usable materials.  The digestive system transforms the energy and materials in food into forms your body can use.

  3. Where is the digestive system? • The digestive system is starts in your stomach and it ends in your rectum. Parts: the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. Other organs are pancreas, liver, and gallbladder.

  4. Process: The first step is when you put food into your mouth and you chew them, while you are chewing a chemical called salivary amylase breaks down carbohydrate or when you eat something and it becomes a soft gowy mass your tongue pushes it do the esophagus and then the esophagus squeezes the food into your stomach. When it is in your stomach, food is mixed by digestive juices. This juices break down fats and proteins. Mucus protects your stomach from the acids. After four hours the food becomes a guwy liquid that is called chyme. The chyme moves to the small intestine and when it is in the small intestine the nutrients are absorbed. In the duodenum the juices that come from the pancreas and the liver combine to break down mix. Then those juices convert the chyme into into a super small molecule so it can be absorbed into your bloodstream. Then the chyme that now is thin and watery gets into the large intestine and the large intestine suks the water from the digestive chyme and this helps human from keeping dehydrating. Then when most of the water has been sucked solid waste goes to the rectum and that is when you have to go to the bathroom.

  5. The mouth The mouth is the beginning of the digestive system. Digestion starts in the mouth before you even take the first bite of a meal. The smell of food triggers the salivary glands in your mouth to secrete saliva, causing your mouth to get watery. When you actually taste the food, saliva increases. Once you start chewing and breaking the food down into pieces small enough to be digested, other mechanisms start functioning. More saliva is produced to begin the process of breaking down food into a form your body can sallow.

  6. The esophagus The esophagus is also called the throat it receives the food from your mouth, which carries food to the stomach, and the trachea. The esophagus is a muscular tube extending from the pharynx and behind the trachea to the stomach.

  7. The stomach The stomach is an organ with strong muscular walls. It holds food. The stomach secretes acid. In the stomach there’s a process that is the process of breaking the food down and changing it to a of liquid . From there, food moves to the small intestine.

  8. The small intestine The small intestine also breaks down food using enzymes released by the pancreas. In the small intestine all of the nutrients are absorbed.

  9. The large intestine Thelargeintestineisthelastpart of thedigestivesystem. Itsfunctionistoabsorbwaterfromtheindigestibefoodmatter. Itstarts in therightillac región of the pelvis.
