Paper less

By : Andy Fuentes

  • Most schools are still full of paper, from the 1,000-page textbooks that fill students’ backpacks, to the notebooks they use to record daily notes and assignments, to the grade books where teachers track their progress. But now we have viable digital replacements for all of those things that offer features such as interactivity, multimedia, and the ability for students a world apart to instantaneously collaborate on a single document—all without killing a single tree. Is paper just one more19th century tool that’s outlived its use, or is it too soon to for schools to consider becoming paper-free?
my proposal
My Proposal
  • I proposed that the school goes paperless.
  • We should start of by monitoring and limiting how much an individual prints at the media center.
  • Used digital medias to communicate, homework etc.
paperless school
Paperless School
  • By eliminating the cost of ink, toner, paper, electricity and maintenance for printers, we could spend more of our funds on appropriate classroom technologies. Our young digital natives adapt easily to screen-oriented reading and find paper to be more of a nuisance than a benefit. The time has come to retire printers and copiers to the museum
cost benefits of going paperless
Cost Benefits of Going Paperless
  • How much money do you spend making copies? In a school of an averages of around 800 students:Copy paper, colored paper, 11 x 17 paper, & staples = $ 14,500.00 per yearToner = $ 1, 350.00 per yearAnnual service contract for printers = $ 8,400.00 per yearTotal = $24,250 per yearYou might think this is an exaggeration, but a student in a public school talk to many educators who work in faculties of around 60 teachers where the standard max paper use before you need to ask for an extension is 15,000 copies per year. That means that the school fixes its budget on the idea that teachers are going to make on average 83 copies per day. In a faculty of 60, that averages to just shy of five-thousand copies a day.

Benefits in the classroom
  • Digitized textbooks are easily distributed, require little management and are far more portable. Our digitally competent students would always have their textbook handy.

  • Recover Costs, Reduce Waste with Our Print Management Software
  • Using Equitrac Express®, we help schools manage their print usage with software-based reporting for all printing and copying expenses. Allocating these costs to the appropriate account, or charging for their usage, encourages everyone to promote responsible printing, as well as minimize wasted paper and toner. Equitrac Express also allows you to:
  • Track output from all connected printers and copiers
  • Use print reports to set and enforce print quota
  • Allocate printing costs to a specific department/grant
  • Discourage waste and abuse, while enforcing rules for output
  • Send files to remote output device for secure pickup
  • Ensure convenience without sacrificing quality
benefit of using equitrac express
Benefit of using Equitrac Express
  • Cut waste
  • Three years ago, the university installed Equitrac Express, a software-based reporting system that tracks who prints what. By using campus card readers, students would physically have to swipe their campus card at the printer to officially release documents to be printed. After tracking student printing habits for a year, the university set a print quota for each individual in September 2008.
  • The system allowed Sacred Heart to give students a certain amount of pages to use free of cost each year. After they reached their limit, they had to pay for each print. Immediately, the pages printed dropped, and by the end of the school year, they had cut the 2.3 million pages printed per year in half.
  • Short term goal-Cut down on unwanted printed paper
  • Long term– Less paper needed to recycle and School would benefit in saving Money. Where the money could be used for other recycling programs
